Hamstring muscles are three muscles that are grouped and are located at the back of the thigh. In certain conditions, this muscle can be pulled or sprained. Symptoms of Hamstring Injury and How to Overcome It

When you experience a hamstring injury, several symptoms will occur. When the injury suffered is still in a mild stage, the pain may not be too pronounced. Pain especially in the back of the thigh and under the buttocks. But if you experience a severe hamstring injury, the pain that appears will be so painful that it will make it difficult for sufferers to stand or walk. Besides pain or aches, other symptoms that may appear include:
  • Sudden pain appears when you're exercising.
  • There is a bruise on the affected part.
  • The pain that appears will usually be felt when walking, bending, or just stretching legs.
There are several actions that can be done to relieve the pain that appears, including:
  • Compress the leg with ice to reduce pain and swelling. Do it every 2-3 hours for 20-30 minutes in a few days since the injury.
  • Apply pressure by wearing elastic bandages on the injured area.
  • When sitting or lying down, place your feet on a pillow so that the position is higher than the body.
  • If needed, it never hurts to try taking painkillers. But you should consult your doctor first to avoid the risk of side effects.
  • Do not force your legs to move. If the injury is already severe, a walker may be needed. To find out what the right tool, consult a doctor.
  • As part of the healing process, do stretching and strengthening muscles. Do this according to the recommendation of the doctor.
  • In certain cases, surgery may be needed to deal with damage to the hamstring muscles.
